Erewash MP praises Erewash Sound and calls for a Commons debate on community radio

Erewash MP Adam Thompson has called for a Parliament debate on the subject of community radio, giving particular reference to the work of Erewash Sound in his constituency.

Addressing his fellow Parliamentarians, Adam, who is a regular guest on the Breakfast Show with Paul Stacey, said: “In Erewash, we are very lucky indeed to have a fantastic community radio station in Erewash Sound.

“Thanks to the incredible Jeff Martin, Paul Stacey and Emma Duthie and dozens and dozens of other volunteers, we have a proper local radio station that focuses on hyper-local matters, promotes our community and has created a media training pipeline through the Erewash Sound Academy that creates real excellence.

“Will the Leader of the House, (Sir Alan Campbell MP) then, make time for a debate on Community Radio so that everyone can hear some more about the magic that my community, and many other communities around the country, enjoys?”

A reply said: “I want to join my Honourable Friend in sending my thanks to all those involved in Community Radio, including Jeff, Paul and Emma at Erewash Sound.

“I know that my Honourable Friend was a keen musician in his youth Mr. Speaker, and that those community radio stations such as those in His community are vital for local and grass roots music.  I also would encourage Him to apply to Westminster to hold a debate on this topic, because I’m sure that there are others who would wish to join in and celebrate what is happening in their own areas.”

Erewash Sound airs a dedicated weekly local music show every – featuring nothing-but music from artists from in and around the Erewash area – The Great Erewash Music Show with Ian Perry, every Thursday from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.
