Council car parks are set to be free to use across Erewash, without exception, for the whole of December.
Free car parking is set to return, encouraging people to visit Erewash and shop local to support the borough's businesses.
This year, the scheme aims to be as no nonsense as possible. It will be available for all of December, so residents won’t have to worry about going out on a specific day to take advantage of the free parking – making the Christmas shopping and going out to eat that bit simpler!
Councillor Curtis Howard, who is Lead Member for Planning and Regeneration at Erewash Borough Council said: “I’m pleased to say that free Christmas car parking will be back in Erewash this December – in fact, it’s bigger, easier, and cheaper than ever before.
This year, parking in council owned car parks in Ilkeston, Long Eaton, and Sandiacre will be free for the whole of December. Every day of the week, all day, starting on December 1st. No more messing about with it only being in specific ones or on certain days.
For the first time, free parking will be all day, not only after 10am like before. This year parking at Long Eaton train station – which has different fares from the other car parks – will also be free, again for the first time. It’s good for shoppers, it’s good for workers, and it’s good for local businesses – simple as.”
The decision is set to be approved at the Council Executive meeting on Tuesday 25th November.
