A local organisation formed 47 years ago in Long Eaton has seen another change in its history as it becomes part of a wider-looking structure.
In March 1978, the Long Eaton Talking Newspaper (LETN) was born. In 2015, after the closure of the Ilkeston Talking Newspaper, the LETN took over roles and responsibilities covering the area and amended their name to the Long Eaton & District Talking Newspaper.
October 2024, saw the closure of the Matlock Talking Newspaper, upon which time, some of their listeners were taken up.
This latest change saw trustees and volunteers conclude the need to review the name of the organisation, in an attempt to more accurately reflect the enlarged geographical now being covered.
Martin Sykes is the Chair of the organisation which provides services, in recorded form particularly, to those who are sight-impaired. He said: "Considering that the River Erewash flows through the majority of their area, the decision has been made to re-name themselves, Erewash Valley Talking News but incorporating Long Eaton & District Talking Newspaper, because we are proud of our roots."
He moved to clarify the reason for the name change which coincided with a new logo being designed by marketing trustee Jackie-Lynn Bennett.
Martin said: "The Trustees and volunteers of The Erewash Valley Talking News Changing stress that their name is a Marketing Exercise only and will have no legal of financial implications."
