A group of walkers in Erewash is seeing 2026 in with a change to its membership after a long standing member decided to step down.

Tony Beardsley was an original member of the Erewash Ramblers Committee, starting out as Programme Secretary and then becoming Chairman.

The organisation was formed in 1981 and is part of the Derbyshire Area of Ramblers.

However, after 45 years on the Committee, Tony has decided to step down.

A statement issued on behalf of the organisation offered its collective thanks to Tony, hailing his experience, knowledge and good humour, but expressed optimism at still being able to meet up with him again on post-walk lunch meetings.

The organisation has issued an appeal for new members.

Any local resident who wants to join the Erewash Ramblers should contact the Publicity Secretary, Stephen Bate, by sending e-mail to publicity @ erewashramblers.org.uk
