Police respond with statement after increase in anti-social driving incidents in Ilkeston

Police officers in Ilkeston have responded having been made aware of an increase in instances of anti-social driving in the town.

A statement said that issues, already known to affect Chalons Way, had become worse, but that surrounding areas were also being affected.

Local residents are being encouraged to report anti-social driving seen occurring in the area.

The statement described anti-social driving as: “…the use of a vehicle that causes alarm, distress, annoyance, or a danger to the public.”

Some examples of antisocial driving include street cruising in which a group of vehicle owners form a convoy and drive up and down a street or around a neighbourhood – usually to show off their cars. This can hold up traffic behind and make things dangerous for other road users.

Also referenced was the act of performing stunts or driving at excessive speeds, whether on public roads or in car parks, which can be dangerous to both the driver and bystanders. It can also cause noise nuisance, especially if taking place at night in residential areas.
