School closures – what happens during bad weather

Derbyshire County Council state that schools don’t need to tell the authority if they’re closed.

If a school has to close at short notice – like due to bad weather – it will contact parents and carers, often by text.

The headteacher decides whether to close the school. They will consider things like keeping staff and pupils safe, if enough staff can get to work, and local road conditions.
