Trams for Derby campaigners ‘left in dark’

Campaigners looking to bring a tram network across Derby claim they have been “left in the dark” over their proposals. The Light Rail Transit Association (LRTA) launched its vision to deliver a tram system for the city in April this year. The organisation believes trams would boost Derby’s economy, reduce pollution and congestion, quicken journey times and give the city a “transformational investment”. The LRTA suggests the trams could attract approximately 75,000 passenger trips per day, with the majority coming […]

Derbyshire County Council in call to Government to rethink A38 junctions cancellation

Economic growth, new homes and jobs across Derbyshire could be put at risk if the Government drops planned improvements to three major A38 junctions, Derbyshire County Council has warned. The county council is urging ministers to reconsider proposals to remove the A38 Derby Junctions scheme from the national road investment programme. The scheme would upgrade the heavily congested Kingsway, Markeaton and Little Eaton junctions, where local journeys and long-distance traffic converge, causing regular delays and unreliable journey times. Derbyshire climate investments

Opposition to solar and wind farms, net zero and disbelief in man-made climate change have not prevented a Derbyshire council continuing to invest more than £1.9 billion in all those areas. In late August Councillor Alan Graves, Reform UK leader of Derbyshire County Council (DCC) said he did not believe that climate change was man-made. Earlier in the same month, the council eradicated climate change, fossil fuels and net zero from all of its legally mandated environmental policies. In January, […]

One borough care home put up for sale, another yet to be put on the market after closures

Several former Derbyshire care homes are being sold at auction after the council failed to secure a buyer to keep them running. In June, Derbyshire County Council confirmed it had emptied and closed eight care homes it had been aiming to sell to a sole provider, after determining it could no longer keep them itself. However, last December, that sale fell through – and, despite offers from other prospective buyers for a number of the individual homes, the council proceeded […]
