Couple die after suspected gas leak in Ilkeston

Residents of an Ilkeston property have lost their lives after a suspected gas leak.

Police officers were reports that a couple had been found unconscious at a house in The Spinney in the town shortly after 10:10am on Friday 20th February.

At the scene, a married couple, a man, 89, and a woman, 90, were found but were pronounced dead by the ambulance service.

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service subsequently made the area safe, and after the property was ventilated, officers were able to carry out an initial review of the circumstances in which the couple died.

A file is being prepared for the coroner and further enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances of the gas leak.
