Funding success will improve three Derbyshire libraries, two in Erewash

Three Derbyshire libraries, two in Erewash, are to benefit from a £440,000 funding boost announced on 14th April 2026. Derbyshire County Council has welcomed the funding which will be spent on reinvigorating and enhancing its libraries in Alfreton, Ilkeston and Long Eaton. The county council’s libraries service successfully bid for the money from Arts Council England’s “Libraries Improvement Fund”, which comes under the government’s Arts Everywhere Fund, as part of a competitive process. After an eight-day action-packed Easter visit to Belgium, the 2nd Ilkeston (United Reformed) Scouts returned home with full notebooks, and stories they’ll be telling for years. The trip blended outdoor challenge, cultural exploration, and international friendship, giving the group a chance to grow in confidence, independence, and teamwork. Mayor lands £57m to turn derelict land into thriving communities

The Mayor of the East Midlands has secured an additional £57.2 million to support housing developments on brownfield land across the region. The funding will be used over the next four years to support the construction of more than 1,900 homes across Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham, and Nottinghamshire. A Derbyshire teenager who is being housed by Derventio Housing Trust has been finding space to heal in a valued gardening project. Leo Webberley, 19, of Heanor, has been living with Derventio Housing Trust since just before Christmas last year.
