Two men jailed for repeated crimes at Long Eaton supermarkets

Two men who targeted staff at two Long Eaton supermarkets over the course of Summer 2026 have been jailed.

Karl Whyatt and Tom Davis centred their criminal activity at Aldi and Farmfoods in the town over the course of late July and early August 2026.

Trawls of CCTV quickly led to the two men being identified, arrested, charged and remanded to prison.

Appearing at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates. the pair pleaded guilty to a number of offences.

20-year old Davis was jailed for nine weeks in a young offenders institution after pleading to one charge of racially aggravated public order and two counts of common assault. He also activated a suspended sentence of 26 weeks that he had been given in March 2026 and must pay £404 in costs, victim surcharge, and compensation.

40-year old Whyatt was handed a nine-week immediate custodial sentence racially aggravated public order, criminal damage under £5000, theft, assault by beating and common assault.

PC Stapley of Long Eaton Safer Neighbourhood team said: “Whyatt and Davis have been persistent causers of anti-social behaviour and criminality which has caused misery to the local community around them, which resulted in a problem management plan being created and investigated.

“It is clear they have no regard for the law or the consequences of their actions as shown by the latest incidents. The shop staff involved were simply at work and trying to do their jobs and should not have been subjected to their behaviour.

“I would like to thank the staff at both premises for working closely with us and supporting the investigation throughout.

“I hope that the imprisonment of these males will send a clear message that retail crime and anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated.”
