Fined HMO owner’s £1.1k bill for ignoring borough council

An Erewash Borough Council investigation into an HMO – house of multiple occupation – has seen its owner taken to court and ordered to pay £1,145 in fines and costs. The authority launched its prosecution of landlord Mahmood Rahemtulla after he ignored a request to supply documentation about tenancy agreements and rent deposits at the five-bed house in Long Eaton. Southbound closure for Tamworth Road traffic

Drivers using a busy route through one of Erewash’s towns face detours until December – as it becomes one-way while contractors crack on with giving Long Eaton a huge £10million revamp. Tamworth Road north of Long Eaton Station is already traffic calmed to encourage vehicles to use either Wilsthorpe Road or Fields Farm Road as through routes. Erewash hotel used to house asylum seekers has returned to the centre of debate

A Derbyshire hotel which has been used as asylum seeker accommodation has become centre of heated debate with officials. At an Erewash Borough Council meeting last week (Thursday, July 23) councillors debated the continued use of the Best Western Hotel in Sandiacre for asylum seeker accommodation. French invasion as car fans have Avantime of their lives

Erewash has seen an invasion of quirky old French cars that were last made decades ago in one of its twin towns across the Channel. Proud drivers of ageing Renault Avantimes flocked to Long Eaton on Saturday 25th July, where they were joined by owners of ultra rare sporty Matras. A man who assaulted, threatened and harassed his partner has been jailed. Nathan Grant was on licence having been released from prison for a previous violent offence when he committed the offences against the woman. Police were called after Grant assaulted the woman by punching her in the ribs, arms and legs before grabbing her by the throat and squeezing until she couldn’t breathe.
