A man has been jailed after being caught in possession of a knife.
After a 999 call was made to Police detailing the matter on a local bus in Sawley, local Safer Neighbourhood Team officers responded immediately, making their way to Tamworth Road.
Lee Foster of no fixed abode, was detained and stop-searched, upon which time, officers found the bladed item – a retractable ‘Stanley’-style knife, in a trouser pocket.
After appearing before Southern Derbyshire Magistrates Court on 19th January, the 45-year old was handed a 52 week prison sentence.
Spokesperson, PC Ramshaw said: “Knife crime is a serious problem nationwide, and this stop and search is a great example of the proactive work the team at Long Eaton undergo to tackle the issue in the local community.
“Operation Sceptre takes place twice a year to raise awareness of knife crime and to put a spotlight on the work carried out by the force as a whole, however, taking dangerous weapons off our streets is a priority that we address all year round.
“I implore anyone who has any information regarding individuals who carry knives and other dangerous weapons, to come forward and report it to the Police.”
