Lewis Allsopp

Support Erewash Sound

Lewis can still remember making his own radio shows at home in the conservatory, saying that ‘"Although my only listener was my grandma, and only because she was in the room with me, it sparked my love of radio!"

Lewis joined the Erewash Sound team in 2018, originally as a Summer cover presenter as other team-members took their holidays, but never really left when the Summer was over!

He took over the Wednesday Drivetime show, Homeward Bound (as it was known back then) in the autumn of 2018, a slot he still presents to this day, now called ‘Erewash Sound Drive’.   He was later joined on the show in 2019 by long-term producer Molly Hall.

In 2019, Lewis was awarded the Bronze award for Best Newcomer at the national Community Radio Awards – something which he still says he can’t believe to this day!

During the coronavirus lockdown, over the Spring and Summer of 2020, he presented ‘Erewash’s Live Quiz’, a virtual event which took place via the Erewash Sound Facebook page, and helped to bring together the community at a time where we were all urged to physically stay apart.

After lockdown restrictions were eased, the quiz was brought to an end in its Facebook form, but not for too long, as, in September 2020, Lewis began to present ‘Erewash’s BIG Quiz!’, a gameshow-style show, as part of a new-look on-air Sunday schedule, which continued for the next 12 months.

In November 2021, Lewis was announced as full-time presenter of Erewash Sound Drive as part of a new-look daytime schedule, presenting the show every weekday from 4pm and was regularly joined on the show by Amelia Salmons.

Behind the scenes, he works to produce audio content and features for the station, has played a major part in the Erewash Sound marketing team and worked on the team which launched Erewash Sound on 103.5FM in October 2020, as well as sometimes helping out with some technical stuff when output is presented from outside Erewash Sound HQ!

On 27th January 2023, Lewis presented his final Erewash Sound Drive show, ahead of breaking away from the radio station to take up a production role with the BBC, but we hope Lewis will make a guest appearance on-air from time to time if opportunity allows.
