Police are investigating after protected trees were chopped down in an ancient Derby woodland. Earlier this month it was reported how “youths” damaged and chopped down trees, which dated back to the 1600s, to make dens at the Chaddesden Wood nature reserve. Work has started on a 20-year plan for new villages, towns, roads and city extensions across Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. Rolls-Royce has signed a contract with Great British Energy – Nuclear which will ultimately enable the development of the UK’s first small modular reactors. A rail expert has said Derby needs a revolutionary tram network “because otherwise the city will decline”.
