Long Eaton Victoria Angling Society: Grange Pond update and working party notice

Support Erewash Sound

A message from John Adamson: Our Head Bailiff, Paul Wheeldon, intends to re-open Grange Pond for fishing from Monday 27th November, but will require assistance from members to enable this.  He said that the water levels were now dropping nicely, although there is still some way to go before safe access may be gained.

Excepting a few days, Grange Pond has been closed for fishing since the end of August.  Initially, there was a fish welfare issue after some fish deaths.  Then as members sought to return to the banks, the rains commenced and for nearly three months the pond has been flooded, with water levels so high that at times the water encroached onto the surrounding housing estates.  It is only in the last few days that Paul and his team have been able to access the pond and open the sluice to run off surplus water.

The flooding has left lots of debris on the banks, with the pathways and fishing pegs requiring clearing to enable safe access, and the floating islands have been dragged out of position.

WORKING PARTY REQUEST
Paul has requested a working party to get this resolved.  He would like members to join him on Saturday 25th November from 10am (for around 2 hours if enough attend), and for those with rakes and wheelbarrows to bring them, plus any other tools they believe may be useful.

The main object will be to clear the perimeter path and access to the water and clean the fishing pegs to make them safe.  The team will also drag the floating islands back into position.

Paul added that should the work not be completed the opening date will be delayed - so a good turnout is essential.

Members may message Paul Wheeldon on Facebook Messages, or respond to his request on the LEVAS GRANGE POND Facebook page.
