Dance music star Rozalla shoots new music video in Derby

Filming for 90s dance legend Rozalla’s latest music video has taken place in Derby with local creatives providing the talent to make the production happen.

Rozalla, best known for chart hits including Everybody’s Free and Faith (In The Power of Love), released the empowerment-themed single alongside a vibrant Derby-shot production.

Landmarks across Derby were chosen by award-winning filmmaker Ashur Stanley to showcase the dance icon’s talents. Filming locations included the Derby Conference Centre, which provided space for the shoot, and Mr Shaw’s House, a creative venue space and music, clothing and design brand on Sadler Gate.

Ashur Stanley, creative director of Derbyshire-based AS Studios, alongside his team created, directed, and produced the brand-new music video. Ashur previously worked with global music icons including Bananarama, Sugababes, Jess Glynne, Faithless, Rylan, Blue and Peter Andre.

He said: “Rozalla and I have been friends for years. Her latest track, Believe In Yourself marks another milestone collaboration between us. The video combines decades of music heritage with fresh, modern production to deliver a vibrant, empowering visual narrative to match Rozalla’s unmistakable voice and timeless energy.”

The production also drew upon local creative talent from across the city to support the endeavour including filmmakers, photographers, stylists, and production specialists.

Ashur said: “I champion East Midlands creatives whenever I can. There are so many talented individuals across Derbyshire, and this project reflected the skills and supportive community of this sector the industry. It’s a really collaborative work; creatives bringing creatives together.”

Derby artists took pivotal roles in the production with make-up artistry led by award winning Amy Grace from The Beauty Collective, while behind-the-scenes photography was captured by Gianni Basi of Lionhart Films.

Ashur is also a director and shareholder at Derby’s Goldbox Productions, which has created exclusive behind-the-scenes video content documenting the shoot.

He said: “This project was an absolute joy to work on. Not only were we blessed with the icon that is Rozalla, but it was an exciting chance to bring together some of the top-tier talent behind the camera too.

“There are so many gifted people working in creative industries right on our doorstep, alongside real generosity from venues in the community.”

The Derby Conference Centre provided accommodation and location space for green screen sequences. Additional scenes were filmed at Mr Shaw’s House on Sadler Gate in Derby.

‘Believe In Yourself’ is available on streaming platforms including Apple Music and Spotify, alongside remixes from Project K and Phil Harding.
