Serious Violence – including Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) – is one of the top priorities in the Police and Crime Commissioner’s (PCC) Police and Crime Plan 2024 29, reflecting the views and concerns of thousands of Derbyshire residents.
In May, the Commissioner will review the progress made by Derbyshire Constabulary in tackling these issues when she receives a detailed performance report from the Chief Constable. This is part of her ongoing, robust scrutiny of the force.
Committed to working closely with local communities, the Commissioner is inviting residents and anyone personally affected by Serious Violence or VAWG to submit questions ahead of the meeting. These questions will help shape the discussion and ensure public concerns are fully represented.
Questions will be answered directly by the Chief Constable or specialist officers. Responses will be shared through the PCC’s dedicated podcast, alongside a wider report highlighting the work taking place to address Serious Violence and VAWG across the county.
Deputy PCC, Dr Fatima Eltinay, leads on VAWG on behalf of the Commissioner. She said: “This meeting is a key chance for people to raise their concerns, ask questions and shape the conversation about the work to tackle serious violence and violence against women and girls.
“I encourage everyone to take part and make sure their voice is heard.”
The Public Assurance Meeting (PAM) will be held on Friday 15th May. PAMs form a series of focused scrutiny meetings designed to ensure transparency and accountability in policing.
Members of the public are invited to submit questions relating to Serious Violence and VAWG between Monday 9th March and midnight on Wednesday 18th March. Questions cannot relate to ongoing investigations.
Submissions can be made via this link.
Recordings of all Public Assurance Meetings are published on the Commissioner’s website and social media channels.
