The 96th annual West Hallam Ploughing Match and Country Show is sure to be an incredible day out for everyone from horticulture enthusiasts to children.

According to ‘Mapperley History’, a friendly argument in 1924 about who could plough the straightest furrow led to the formation of the West Hallam & District Ploughing and Hedge-Cutting Society – and their annual match.
This year’s contest will take place on Sunday 20th September 2026 from 9:00am at Risley Lane in Breaston. The Mayor of Erewash, Councillor Greg Maskalick, will be in attendance to judge the best trade stand, with a trophy to celebrate the winner.
Councillor Maskalick said, “The ploughing match is a wonderful longstanding tradition. It’s great to see West Hallam & District Ploughing and Hedge-Cutting Society keep these skills alive while bringing the community together for a great day out. I can’t wait to see the trade stands on the day!”
The event’s poster for 2026 promises a day packed with traditional hedgelaying, horticultural classes, children’s classes, vintage tractor display, a fun dog and sheep show, cookery and crafts.
Attendees will also find garden produce plus food and drink to enjoy.
Entry is £8 for adults, and children under 16 go free when accompanied by a paying adult. Tickets can be paid for with cash or card on the day. Free on-site parking will be available.
