Community spirit shines as gifts pour into Ilkeston care home

From an emotional plea to the community through Erewash Sound asking them to bring a little Christmas Cheer to the residents at Canal Vue, to a room full of gifts, the community of Ilkeston pulled together to make a difference.

The plea was from Naomi Allsop, activities coordinator at Canal Vue Care Home appealing to the community for help to brighten Christmas for residents, who at times, have felt low at not being able to hug or directly receive contact with their family or friends.

Since then the home has been overwhelmed by an outpouring of support and kindness from local businesses, individuals, charities and schools in the area.  From mince pies, biscuits, cakes and chocolates, to individually wrapped gifts and handmade Christmas cards made by school children, the response has been huge.

Activities Coordinator, Naomi, at Canal Vue Care Home said: “We are really overwhelmed with the support.  It’s really quiet emotional to know people are thinking about us and taking the time to send gifts.  Community spirit in Ilkeston really has prevailed to make the residents smile and enjoy the moment.  The smiles certainly got a little bigger in the office when we saw the tray of Terry’s Chocolate Oranges for the staff!"
