Derby College Group (DCG) officials have expressed their pride after the organisation successfully achieved the nationally recognised Matrix Standard accreditation, following a comprehensive external assessment conducted in March 2026.
The Matrix Standard is the international quality benchmark for organisations delivering information, advice and guidance (IAG) services. This achievement recognises DCG’s continued commitment to providing high-quality, student-centred support that empowers individuals to make informed decisions about their education, careers and future.
The assessment, carried out by The Growth Company on behalf of the Department for Education, confirmed that Derby College Group has met the Standard following a rigorous five-day review process, including site visits, interviews with staff, students and partners, and detailed evaluation of systems, strategies and outcomes .
The accreditation, awarded on 27th March 2026, is valid until March 2029.
Aaron Denton, Vice Principal at Derby College Group, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have achieved the matrix Standard accreditation. This is a significant recognition of the incredible work our teams do every day to support our students, apprentices and employers.

The assessment highlighted a number of key strengths across the organisation, including the passion and dedication of staff, the breadth of partnerships with employers and external agencies, and a strong commitment from senior leadership to continuous improvement and high-quality student support .
The report also recognised the scale and impact of DCG’s provision, supporting over 13,500 students across Derby and Derbyshire, with a clear strategic focus on educational excellence, social mobility and economic development .
Rob Barlow, matrix Standard Assessor, commented: “Derby College Group demonstrates a strong, organisation-wide commitment to delivering effective information, advice and guidance services. There is clear evidence of a student-first approach, supported by passionate staff, strong leadership and a well-developed network of partnerships.
“The breadth of provision, combined with a clear focus on continuous improvement, ensures that learners are supported to achieve positive outcomes and progress successfully into further education, employment or training.”
Students themselves also highlighted the impact of the support they receive, with feedback noting increased confidence, clearer career pathways and valuable guidance throughout their journey.
This achievement reinforces Derby College Group’s role as a leading further education provider in the region, continuing to deliver high-quality education and support that enables individuals to thrive and contribute to their communities and the wider economy.
