Derbyshire’s children’s homes provide safety and stability for young people who feel valued and listened to, according to Ofsted.
The independent body, which inspects and regulates education and care services for children, visited 11 of the county council’s 12 homes that were due for inspection last year.
Nine of the residential homes visited have been judged to be good or better in the support they provide.
In the reports Ofsted say that children living in Derbyshire’s residential homes generally receive either good or outstanding care.
Staff who work with the children know them well and have developed warm, nurturing relationships with a strong focus on children’s safety, stability and emotional well being, they say.
Inspectors consistently highlight that children feel safe, listened to and valued, with their wishes and feelings taken seriously.
Staff tailor care to children’s individual needs, helping them to make meaningful progress in education, independence and social development.
Ofsted also recognise ambitious and committed leadership in many homes, effective safeguarding and positive partnership working with families and professionals.
Where improvements are identified, these relate to consistency in record keeping, management oversight, training and leadership stability rather than a lack of care or commitment.
Inspectors are clear there are no widespread failures to safeguard children.
Councillor Sam Redfern, Derbyshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Families, said: “I’m delighted that Ofsted have recognised the excellent support being provided in our children’s homes. Inspectors noted the commitment and care provided by our amazing staff to ensure young people feel safe, valued and listened to.
“I’d like to thank them for their dedication to care and support our children and young people when they need it most.”
Although two further homes have been judged as requiring improvement the inspectors are assured that staff are making the progress required to improve.
