In the wake of the announcement that the Ilkeston branch of Lloyds Bank is to close in November 2026, Adam Thompson pledged to address the matter, and recently took to social media to provide an update.

The Erewash MP met with senior staff from the company and put concerns directly to them.

He said this was “…about how the big commercial banks are abandoning high streets, leaving local customers in the lurch. One in five people still do not use online banking, a figure that disproportionately includes the elderly and disabled.”

Mr. Thompson said that banking officials made a commitment that they would maintain community banking in Ilkeston on a regular basis, having members of staff in town in person at least every two weeks. They also said they would help people move over to online banking, and even giving them a device and mobile data if needed.

The MP added: “A promise that Lloyds will still have some form of regular presence in Ilkeston for people to access is, of course, welcome. They haven’t locked down a venue or schedule yet, which I offered them help with.

“I also asked after the welfare and security of the Lloyds staff in Ilkeston. They were given options, and I’m assured that most of their workers have kept their jobs by moving to other branches.

“I’ll keep in touch to try and hold them to these pledges, and make sure local people can stay informed.”
