You never know who is listening to you – hiccup…

Once the microphone is switched on, a presenter can lay themselves open to whatever happens in those few moments but one Erewash Sound presenter found that even a late night show isn’t off peak enough to prevent him from having an unfortunate moment reported upon by local media.

On 18th February, a reporter for monthly newspaper Ilkeston Life posted an update on line about Late Show and Late Night Wind Down presenter Nick Richardson:

It’s a fact – radio presenter gets hiccups on air

An Erewash Sound presenter was recently hit by a bout of hiccups during his programme.

Nick Richardson usually includes a fascinating fact in his Late Night Wind Down show, but another one showed up – that if something CAN go wrong, it WILL go wrong sooner or later.

Poor Nick battled on bravely despite the hicks that kept interrupting his chat. Apologising regularly, he carried on regardless, introducing the chilled-out tracks of his programme between 11pm and 1am.

A hiccup is an involuntary contraction of the diaphragm that may repeat several times per minute.

It produces a loud ‘hick’ sound and can be hard to get rid of.

Nick said: “I hate getting hiccups – especially here!” He has been a presenter with Erewash Sound for a number of years, news-reading and DJ-ing.

Sharing the post on an internal message board within Erewash Sound, Nick said: "It looks like I made the news instead of reading the news…"
