UK-India deal brings ‘significant benefit’ to businesses trading internationally

Firms across Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire that import or export goods are set to gain as the UK’s new trade deal with India, said to be worth £4.8bn to the UK economy each year comes into force, East Midlands Chamber has said.

Head of International Trade Lucy Granger said: “India has proved to be a valuable trading partner for East Midlands importers and exporters and with this deal now active, there’s a tremendous opportunity for those that trade internationally to build on that closer relationship.

“Attracting inward investment and easing export conditions can only be a good thing, both for firms that trade overseas and for economic growth, so I very much welcome this deal and would encourage businesses considering trade with India to explore the huge scope presented by this and other markets around the world.

“The British Chambers of Commerce are soon to produce a UK-India Trade Accelerator which promises to be a highly useful go-to for insight and guidance for those trading with India, while East Midlands Chamber’s International Trade department stands ready to provide expert support for importers and exporters across the region.
