400 homes next to A52 still on table despite traffic concern

Plans to build at least 400 homes next to the A52 in Derby remain a realistic possibility, despite “strong opposition” from the public over traffic concerns. Last year, very early plans were announced for a huge development off Stoney Lane, in Spondon – right next to the busy Brian Clough Way, connecting Derby and Nottingham. The land in question was previously classified as green belt – meaning it was strictly protected from development. However, recent analysis has shown the site […]

A52 housing plans for Risley/Sandiacre

Scores of homes could soon be built alongside the M1 and A52 on the outskirts of a Derbyshire town, in the protected Green Belt. The plans, from Wheeldon Brothers, NM & DA Thorpe and NA Cotton, would involve 150 houses being built off Bostocks Lane, in Risley, next to the M1 and A52 junction for Sandiacre. Derbyshire school places shortfall

More than 1,800 Derbyshire children over the next five years will have to attend schools outside their catchment after central Government pulled the plug on a long-planned new secondary. A falling birth rate was the reason put forward for the Labour Government’s reason to scrap the planned £27 million 1,230-space secondary school on the Infinity Garden Village, bordering Chellaston. Its decision, issued at the end of March, came despite fervent lobbying from politicians of all political persuasions, including South Derbyshire’s […]

Events described as “bizarre”, “peculiar” and “silly” after borough councillors decide not to decide a planning application

By Eddie Bisknell - Local Democracy Reporting Service Derbyshire councillors have decided not to decide a planning application in a move branded “bizarre”, “peculiar” and “silly”. At an Erewash Borough Council meeting last night (Wednesday, March 11th), councillors refused to make a decision on a planning application for a five-bedroom HMO, which did not require planning permission under permitted development rights. After extensive discussions, including legal and planning advice, openly bemused councillors with self-confessed “headaches” voted in favour of non-determination […]

Plans for 200 homes on contentious land

By Nigel Slater - Local Democracy Reporting Service Controversial plans to build up to 200 homes on “vital” green land next to a busy Derby road have triggered much concern. Keepmoat Homes is seeking permission from Derby City Council to build a “vibrant” estate consisting of dozens of homes off Acorn Way. The road links Oakwood and Chaddesden with Spondon. The application site is towards the Spondon end adjacent to Derby Road but is on Green Wedge land which separates […]
