Paul StaceyA group which helps people with breathing difficulties meets regularly in an Ilkeston church. Breathe Easy meets on the third Wednesday of each month at Nottingham Road Methodist Church on Nottingham Road. The group has recently celebrated its first anniversary.
The 10th Ilkeston Scouts are on the look out for new leaders. The troupe meets once a week at The Bartram Centre in Stanley Common, firstly with Beavers from 6:30pm to 7:30pm on Mondays. Cubs meet on Thursdays from 6:30pm to 8:00pm and Scouts meet on the Mondays from 6:30pm to 7:30pm and on Fridays from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. Ilkeston Folk and Blues Club meets every every Wednesday at the Ilkeston Rugby Club, Hallam Fields Road from 8:30pm. Admission is just £1 on the door including a buffet and a raffle ticket. Ilkeston and District 50+ forum is seeking new members. The group has regular discussions, is run by the people of the area, and works with local authories and organisations to give the over 50s a local voice. The Ilkeston and District Astronomical Society meet regularly to discuss star gazing and developments in the space industry. Group members also take part in regular trips out to view the night sky. Families with children under 5 in Ilkeston can register with the local childrens centre.
Residents are being urged to take early advantage of a free debt advice service offered by Erewash Borough Council and the Charity Derbyshire Housing Aid before it is too late. The Council’s Housing Options Team is able to aid residents with financial difficulties by showing how to best manage money and by helping to renegotiate mortgage and debt payments before serious difficulties arise.

Ilkeston actor William Roache is approaching 50 years in a TV soap opera. The 76 year old is now the world’s longest serving soap start after spending almost half a century as Ken Barlow in Coronation Street. A former resident of Rutland House in Heanor Road and once sent to live in Wales during World War 2, Mr. Roache has recently signed a new two year contract which will take him into his 50th year.
