A 29-year old from Ilkeston is set to compete in the Manx Grand Prix in August on the Isle of Man, which covers the same famous 37 mile mountain course used by the TT race.

Owen Monaghan works for motorbike manufacturer Royal Enfield by day and spends every spare hour in his workshop or on a race track, racing motorbikes. Since he started racing, he has always aimed to get to the TT and is determined that 2027 will be his year.

He self-funds his racing, builds his own bikes, and has built a community of people who love racing and travel with him to see him race all over the UK. Although he is backed by a small number of local sponsors, he is largely doing this off his own back and building his own bikes in his home workshop.

Speaking for Owen, Beth Thompson said: “It’s a proper local lad chasing one of the most dangerous and iconic motorsport events in the world. I think there is an amazing story to be told about a local lad who works hard in and out of work and lives and breathes his passion to achieve his dream of the TT.”
