The Government has announced its decision on Local Government Reorganisation in Derbyshire.
The two unitary proposal for Derbyshire put together by Chesterfield Borough Council, Derby City Council, Erewash Borough Council and High Peak Borough Council, including boundary changes will proceed.
For more detail on this proposal which was listed as ‘B1’ in the joint submission, please see the following link: Our proposals – One Derbyshire Two Councils
There are no immediate changes to council services, and Erewash residents should continue to access services in the usual way.
A statement from Erewash Borough Council said: “Our priority remains delivering high-quality services while working positively and constructively with all Derbyshire councils to ensure the transition is well planned, well managed and delivers the best possible outcomes for our residents and communities.”
The announcement marks the beginning of the next stage of the Local Government Reorganisation programme.
This stage provides an opportunity to shape future local government arrangements that will continue to deliver high-quality, sustainable services for the people and communities we serve.
Leader of Erewash Borough Council, Councillor James Dawson said, “This decision proceeds with the two unitary proposal we put forward. Erewash residents continue to be at the heart of our plans, and we will work to ensure any future arrangements will still deliver effective and responsive services.
“We will also continue to work collaboratively and communicate clearly throughout the process to help make the transition as smooth as possible while maintaining the services residents rely on every day. We would like to thank everyone who took the time to participate in the Local Government Reorganisation consultations and share their views throughout the process.”
Further information, including frequently asked questions, the programme timetable and future updates, will be published on the Erewash Borough Council website as they become available.
