Couple die after suspected gas leak in Ilkeston

Residents of an Ilkeston property have lost their lives after a suspected gas leak. Police officers were reports that a couple had been found unconscious at a house in The Spinney in the town shortly after 10:10am on Friday 20th February. At the scene, a married couple, a man, 89, and a woman, 90, were found but were pronounced dead by the ambulance service. Man quickly arrested after woman approached at Elvaston Castle

Police officers are appealing for information following a report of concerning behaviour at Elvaston Castle Country Park. The incident occurred at around midday on Friday 6th February 2026, when a woman reported that she was approached by a man wearing a high‑visibility jacket who was acting in a suspicious and intimidating manner. Eighteen blank firearms handed in during first weeks of amnesty

An amnesty which began at the start of February has seen 18 blank firemarms handed into Police Stations in Derbyshire. Under Operation Pivot, a national firearms amnesty, running throughout the month, there is a focus on five models of imitation firearms, which have been shown to be readily convertible by testing from the NCA, and are therefore illegal.
