Airport parking rates rise by twice the rate of inflation since 2020

Airport Parking prices have soared by as much as 188% in six years, as the overall cost of parking continues to far outpace general inflation. The Airport Parking Inflation Index, compiled by Airport Parking Shop, analysed prices at 22 UK airports and found the average daily cost of parking has risen from £9.86 in August 2020 to £17.00 in August 2026, an increase of around 72%. Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service is emphasising the importance of the safe handling and disposal of cigarettes and other smoking materials, after firefighters attended more than 150 smoking-related accidental dwelling fires between 2020 and 2025. Eight people died in smoking-related accidental house fires over the same period, with the highest number of incidents recorded in Derby and the High Peak district. First of 10 new Elizabeth line Alstom trains enters service

The first of 10 new Elizabeth line trains built by Alstom in Derby has entered service. The first Class 345 Aventra train, built at the firm’s Litchurch Lane Works, has begun passenger service in London, following an extensive period of testing on the mainline railway by Alstom, Transport for London and the operator GTS. Only half of East Midlands primary school children had flu vaccine last year – leaving thousands unprotected

East Midlands parents are being urged to protect their children against flu and keep more vulnerable family members healthy this winter by getting their children vaccinated. Last winter (2025-26), only 52.8% of primary school children in the East Midlands received a flu vaccine – slightly down on the previous winter (2024-25), when uptake was 52.9%.
