Local charity Salcare has expressed pride in announcing the launch of a new Food Project from 1st June 2026, designed to make food support more accessible for individuals and families across the local community.
The project has been made possible thanks to funding received through The National Lottery Community Fund’s Awards for All programme and builds on Salcare’s involvement within the wider Feeding Derbyshire and Feeding Britain network of affordable food support initiatives.
The funding will allow Salcare to expand and improve its existing food pantry provision during a time when many households continue to experience ongoing cost-of-living pressures.
As part of the new project, Salcare will introduce several key improvements aimed at reducing barriers and improving accessibility, including:
* FREE pantry sign-up until June 2027 (normally £5)
* Increased food quantities and value within every £7.50 shop
* A new Wednesday late-night opening until 6:30pm
The extended opening hours have been introduced to help support individuals and families who may struggle to access services during standard daytime hours due to work, caring responsibilities or other commitments.
Salcare hopes the project will help ensure more people can access affordable food support in a welcoming and community-focused environment.

Don Davis, CEO, commented: “We are incredibly grateful to The National Lottery Community Fund and National Lottery players for making this project possible. Through our involvement with Feeding Derbyshire and Feeding Britain, we have seen first-hand the positive impact accessible food support can have within local communities.
“This funding now allows us to build on that support further by improving accessibility, increasing provision and helping reduce some of the barriers people can face when accessing affordable food support.”
Alongside supporting service users directly, Salcare is also encouraging local businesses, organisations and community partners to get involved through sponsorship, donations, volunteering opportunities and partnership working.
The charity hopes the project will strengthen long-term community support and continue building positive local impact through collaboration.
