Derbyshire Constabulary’s plan to tackle problem behaviour

Officials at Derbyshire Constabulary have outlined a plan to tackle anti-social behaviour in Derbyshire, setting out how the force will work to reduce problem behaviour and protect victims.

Anti‑social behaviour (ASB) covers a range of issues – from noise nuisance and vandalism to intimidation, fly‑tipping and drug‑related behaviour – and can have a lasting impact on people and communities.

The plan, which is now available on the Derbyshire Constabulary website, highlights key parts of the approach, which includes:

• Targeted patrols in areas where ASB issues are most likely to happen
• Effective use of the powers and tools to stop offending, such as protective orders
• A problem‑solving approach to prevent repeat issues
• Strong partnership working with councils, housing providers and community organisations to address root causes
• Early intervention and education, particularly with children and young people
• Supporting victims, including those who are repeatedly affected or vulnerable

Chief Inspector Katie Andrews, Derbyshire Constabulary’s lead for anti‑social behaviour, said: “Across Derbyshire, officers are already delivering strong local work to tackle anti‑social behaviour. This plan brings that work together and helps us focus our efforts where they will have the greatest impact.

“ASB cannot be tackled by policing alone, which is why partnership working is essential. Alongside this, recent improvements, such as extra questions in our control room to identify vulnerable or repeat ASB victims, and enhanced hotspot patrol technology, strengthen our ability to target patrols and support those most affected.

“This ASB Action Plan helps to bring all of this into one place as we continue this commitment to preventing and tackling problem behaviour across the county.”

Derbyshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Nicolle Ndiweni-Roberts, said: “I know from my conversations with residents and businesses just how vital it is to tackle anti-social behaviour effectively. 

“This Action Plan provides a straightforward reference point for the public. It gives reassurance that real, coordinated action is underway.

“However, anti-social behaviour cannot be addressed by the police alone. It requires a collective effort, with partners working together – and this plan clearly outlines how that collaboration is being delivered.

Developed jointly by my office and the force, this Plan forms a key part of our commitment to delivering the Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee. It represents good news for communities, for businesses, and for all those working every day to reduce anti-social behaviour.”

Derbyshire’s ASB Action Plan, which has been created by Derbyshire Constabulary and the Office of the Derbyshire Police and Crime Commissioner and forms a key part of our response within the national Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee.
