Two Police officers from Long Eaton have been joined by a representative from the Derbyshire Rural Crime Team, visiting as as many local farms as possible, offering free Horsebox, trailer and power tool marking, using a system to protect equipment and deter thieves.
PCSOs Doar and Eaton were joined by PCSO Hadley to promote the benefits of Datatag – a specialist security marking system that uses a mix of visible and hidden identifiers, including unique ID numbers, microdots, and forensic marking.
This helps police trace and recover stolen items and makes property far less attractive to criminals.
A collective statement said: “This has been a great day to get to know our local farmers and work with our Rural Crime team. We even have a little Rural Crime Officer in the making.
“Whilst we were out and about an incident was reported to us regarding two young children shooting pigeons with a catapult.
“In the UK all wild birds, their nests, and their eggs are protected by law. It is against the law to intentionally kill, injure, or take wild birds, unless carried out under a licence.
“Offences can carry a prison sentence of up to six months.”
An appeal has been issued to the public for help in identifying anyone involved in that offence, either through community intelligence or through witnessing anything, to call 101 quoting incident 700-110426.
