Derbyshire County Council officially eradicates climate change, fossil fuels and net zero from environmental policies

Reform-run Derbyshire County Council has officially eradicated climate change, fossil fuels and net zero from all of its environmental policies. The authority has now formally replaced the previous climate change strategy with an environmental sustainability strategy. This new policy, which is legally mandated to meet the county council’s environmental responsibilities, including as a flood authority, no longer contains any reference to climate change, net zero, or fossil fuels. A new plan has been drawn-up by Derbyshire County Council to help it meet its environmental responsibilities while also bringing about benefits for residents and the local economy. Crackdown on water companies delivers record funding to restore harm done to waterways

Local communities, water quality and wildlife will benefit from a record £8.5 million paid by water companies into environmental restoration projects as part of a strengthened crackdown on pollution and poor performance across the sector. This compares to £5.8 million the year before, a 47% increase, and just under £2 million in the 2023/24 financial year.
