Erewash Police Officers focus on knife crime as part of Operation Sceptre

The week commencing 18th May 2026 has seen an intensification of Derbyshire Constabulary's knife crime initiative called 'Operation Sceptre', with a range of activities being carried out in and around Erewash. Derbyshire Historic Buildings Trust and The New Ritz Collective have announced that a nomination has officially been submitted for The Ritz, Ilkeston to be listed as an Asset of Community Value (ACV). Vehicle seized in Ilkeston over ‘suspicious driving’, found to have false number plates

A Police patrol in Ilkeston led to the seizure of a vehicle which had been seen being driven in a suspicious manner. The incident in the town centre led to further enquiries and checks being made on the vehicle which revealed it was being driven on false number plates and was also in a non-road-worthy condition. CCTV released as part of appeal into arson attack

Derbyshire Police officials have released CCTV of a man wanted for questioning in relation to an arson attack in Ilkeston. A man walked past a property in Quarry Hill Road at about 8:00pm on Sunday 19th April, stopped, pulled a lighter out of his pocket and set fire to a tarpaulin before leaving the scene. Funding success will improve three Derbyshire libraries, two in Erewash

Three Derbyshire libraries, two in Erewash, are to benefit from a £440,000 funding boost announced on 14th April 2026. Derbyshire County Council has welcomed the funding which will be spent on reinvigorating and enhancing its libraries in Alfreton, Ilkeston and Long Eaton. The county council’s libraries service successfully bid for the money from Arts Council England’s “Libraries Improvement Fund”, which comes under the government’s Arts Everywhere Fund, as part of a competitive process.
