Erewash Borough Council has created a plan of action to help residents through the cost-of-living crisis.

The cost-of-living action plan, that looks set to be approved by Council Executive on September 5th, brings together support from the council and community partners, such as Citizens Advice and Erewash Voluntary Action, for struggling households.

The action plan has six key themes around support that is available. These are: information and advice; help with energy costs; supporting everyday living expenses; support with housing; financial support, and community grants.

Councillor Becca Everett, Deputy Leader of Erewash Borough Council and Lead Member for Community Engagement, said: “The cost-of-living crisis is impacting all households across the country with those on the lowest incomes and the least disposable income being hit the hardest. In recognition of this, the council has developed a partnership cost-of-living action plan to set out the local response which complement’s steps being taken at a national level to support struggling households.”

Melanie Mallinson, Senior Operations Manager at Citizens Advice Derbyshire Districts, said: "We are working with the council to help Erewash residents through the cost-of-living crisis. We know that people are having to make cutbacks and we can provide people with advice on energy bills, benefits, debt and money issues, as well as debt housing and access to grants.”

Stella Scott, Chief Executive Officer of Erewash Voluntary Action, said: “We are a community voluntary service which provides a range of services for residents and community groups to help them through difficult times. This includes supporting voluntary and community groups by providing training, networks and funding advice. Our other services include the Derbyshire Mental Health Forum and Social Prescribing, to reduce isolation and loneliness.”

The council is committed to supporting people through the cost-of living. Information and advice can be found on the cost-of-Living tab of erewash.gov.uk
