Local Branch Of Royal British Legion In Danger Of Closure
The Stanton-by-Dale branch of the Royal British Legion is in danger of closure. One of the smallest groups in the country, the branch has just 15 members but all are hoping that newcomers will join to help keep the valuable work going. Ten villagers were killed during the two World Wars and a total of eight Canadian serviceman also died locally when their Stirling bomber crashed near Grove Farm. They are remembered by local people at the annual remembrance day service staged in the village. New members are not required to be former servicemen. A secretary and treasurer are roles which particularly need filling.

Company Pulls Out Of Development At Stanton Ironworks
The company behind a controversial development at Stanton Ironworks has pulled out following the economic downturn. Spring Developments had intended to submit plans to build 4,000 properties with a road linking the site through Erewash Countryside, but have now said that the firm will no longer be involved. Landowner Saint Gobain is seeking a new developer to take on the plans within six months.
Green Squeeze
A campaign group set up to oppose plans for a major road across Erewash countryside to Stanton-by-Dale has created a new name and website. The group - The Green Squeeze - has been established with the aim to stop a major road being constructed between a major development of around 4,000 homes and other buildings, and the A52. Birmingham-based Spring Developments plans to pick one of five possible routes to the site, one of which is opposed by Green Squeeze. The group's website can be visited at

New Tram System To Stanton-By-Dale
A new tram system could be installed linking a new super-village with Nottingham. The all party Parliamentary Group for Light Rail wants to see a new line from Lenton to Wollaton and onwards to Stanton-by-Dale, but site owner Saint Gobain must first apply for planning permission first as well as rely on completion of Line Two of the Nottingham Tram Network. The 4,000 home scheme for Stanton is expected to be submitted next year.
New Gallery At Erewash Museum Dedicated To Stanton Ironworks
A new gallery dedicated to the history of Stanton Ironworks is to be officially launched on
Saturday 7th November at Erewash Museum with a celebration Open Day packed full of memories.
The Stanton Gallery has been designed as an evolving showpiece that will make the Museum the leading collection and tribute place for all memories of Stanton Ironworks and includes personal memories of workers and their families, donated artefacts and loans from the community.
