Erewash Sound News understands that work is to begin on Friday to partially demolish a road side building which is the subject of an investigation into alleged arson.

On Thursday, Police officers arrested a boy - locally reported to be as young as 12 - in connection with the incident at the former Wilmot Arms Public House on Derby Road on Wednesday afternoon.

We understand that building control officers have requested that the section of the end of the affected building nearest to Derby Road is scaled back by around 8 metres in order to make the road and footpath safe. This, it is thought, will enable the main road through the village to be reopened.

Currently, extensive scaffolding is in place across both the pavement and road to support the end of the severely damaged building. Derby Road remains closed as a result, with local bus routes diverted and access only for residents, business owners and business users.

Road infrastructure networks suggest permission has been established for a provisional road closure to be in place until 13th April if necessary.
