A new national guidance document has been released to help pubs, bars, and other licensed venues prepare for the tournament. This guidance has been produced by the British Beer & Pub Association (BBPA) in partnership with UKHospitality, the British Institute of Innkeeping, the Institute of Licensing and the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC), with support from National Pubwatch and Best Bar None.
The guidance sets out practical steps for licensees planning to screen matches, including:
A further section of the guidance focuses on counter-terrorism vigilance, emphasising the importance of staff remaining alert to suspicious behaviour and knowing how to report concerns. Licensed premises continue to be recognised as attractive targets, and venues are encouraged to ensure their risk assessments reflect the current threat level and that appropriate measures are in place.
A statement from Derbyshire Police said: “We encourage all licensees intending to show World Cup fixtures to review this guidance and begin planning early to help ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for staff, customers, and the wider community.”
