Twenty-five people have been arrested after drugs, weapons and cash were taken off the streets of Erewash during a targeted operation.
Focusing on drug dealing in the area, both uniformed and plain clothes officers stopped and searched 52 people and 13 vehicles – leading to nine weapons, including a knuckle duster, knives, and a baton being seized.
As well as the weapons, heroin, crack cocaine, and cannabis worth thousands of pounds and cash totalling more than £3,000 was also seized.
Of the twenty-five people arrested, nine have been charged with offences including theft, drink driving, fail to stop, and drugs offences.
Inspector Charlotte Pigott, who leads policing in the area, said: “Following community feedback through our meetings across the area, along with an increase in the drug related activity recorded by the force, we set up a targeted operation focusing on drug dealing supply and the carrying of weapons.
“Over the course of 12 days in Ilkeston and Long Eaton officers from the local policing team, Special Constables, volunteers, specialist officers, and the dog unit, caused significant disruption to the drugs supply in the area.
“Charges on 10 of those arrested have been secured – and enquiries continue into those who have been bailed or released under investigation.
“Proactive work also continues on a daily basis to target those who seek to harm our communities through the sale of drugs – and I would urge anyone with information about drug dealing, or any other criminality, to contact us in confidence at any time.”
