Derbyshire Police officers continue to seize illegal scooters on county roads, with 31 escooters confiscated in April – the equivalent of one taken off the streets every day.
In total, more than 820 e-scooters have been seized since officers began a ‘seize first’ approach in November 2024.
In April, illegally used e-scooters were seized across the county, including in Ilkeston as well as Derby city, Swadlincote, Ripley and Buxton, as part of ongoing efforts to keep roads and public spaces safe.
Privately owned e-scooters cannot be used legally to use on public roads, pavements and cycle paths.
Inspector Lee Welsby, who leads the Derbyshire Police Roads Policing Unit, said: “Riding e-scooters illegally presents risks to riders, drivers and pedestrians – we know this from issues raised by the public and incidents seen around the country.
“Our approach is clear, and we would advise anyone considering buying an e-scooter to use anywhere apart from private land to think again. Save yourself money, time and stress by doing the research and buying something you can use legally.”
