A joint police and fire investigation into a derelict building fire on Heanor Road in Ilkeston has concluded the most probable cause to be deliberate. Investigators believe the fire most likely started when a naked flame came into contact with combustible materials. Police officers in Long Eaton have identified a motorist who was driving despite being disqualified. The stop of the Ford Mondeo on 1st June in the area, resulted in a vehicle and roadside check being carried out. A Police patrol in Ilkeston led to the seizure of a vehicle which had been seen being driven in a suspicious manner. The incident in the town centre led to further enquiries and checks being made on the vehicle which revealed it was being driven on false number plates and was also in a non-road-worthy condition.
