Twenty-five people have been arrested during an operation targeting people wanted for burglary, theft, and robbery.  The week of action, which ran across Derby, Erewash, and South Derbyshire, also saw people arrested on suspicion of other serious offences such as threats to kill, harassment and fraud.

The operation, which ran between 5th and 11th July was organised after the force saw an increase in acquisitive crimes such as burglary following the relaxation of coronavirus regulations.

Sergeant Tony Owen, who organised the operation, said: “Over the past weeks we have seen an increase in the number of calls for service in relation to offences such as burglary and theft.

“This is somewhat unsurprising given that many people will be leaving the home as they may return to work, visit family and friends and head away on holiday.

“Acquisitive crimes like theft and burglary are often committed by individuals who are known for committing these type of offences – hence why we have made a concerted push to target those who are outstanding for similar crimes.

“Alongside those wanted suspects officers also took the opportunity to find and arrest other people for making threats to kill, fraud and harassment.

“While this was a concerted week of action – the work of finding and arresting those wanted for these offences carries on each and every day across the county and we will continue to target those who cause harm to our communities.”
