Officers from the Ilkeston Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team have issued a reminder to motorists after carrying out patrols outside a school in the town in mid-July.

The statement on social media offered what was described as "a polite reminder" about parking on zig-zag lines outside any school, adding that zigzags are there as a warning to motorists not to stop in this part of the road, and that this because the cars block the children's view of oncoming traffic, making crossing the road unnecessarily hazardous.

It warned that parking on zigzags is an offence for which offenders could receive points and a fine.
