Employees at Erewash branches of a chip-shop chain will not have to spend the festive season in fear of losing their jobs after a company buy-out was announced
George's Tradition employs a number of people at sites in both Ilkeston and Long Eaton as well as further afield, with the whole business paying the wages for more than 100 people, all of which were put into doubt after administrators were called in earlier in 2021.
However, a team of senior managers has taken over six takeaway sites across both Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, although some uncertainty remains for 26 workers at a Woodlinkin pub which also forms part of the company structure but which is not part of the management takeover. The new officials have, however, pledged to continue running it as a going concern pending a planned sale.
A statement from the newly formed company said that after a period of uncertainty, the company now has financial stability, that the aim now was to focus on providing the best service possible, and that there was delight at being able to advise employees before the festive season got fully underway.
The two sites in Ilkeston and Long Eaton also have a restaurant attached to the takeaway but it has not been made clear as to whether these elements of the business will continue to trade.
Although the brand has sites in Staffordshire and Leicestershire, those businesses are run by a separate organisation and did not form part of the recent administration.
