A combined operation between officers from the Long Eaton Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT), the Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit, Derbyshire Constabulary Vehicle Examiners and Taxi Licensing from Erewash Borough Council saw action being taken at and near West Park in the town on Wednesday 21st June.

The traffic operation was pre-planned and resulted in education and enforcement with drivers for a range of offences such as insecure loads, dangerous vehicle conditions, speeding and document offences.

In Derbyshire in 2021, 30 people were killed and 2238 people were injured as a result of Road Traffic Collisions. Therefore there has been an increase in Police operations to improve road safety across Derbyshire.

Figures for the 12 months up to September 30th 2022 show that this work is already making a difference with a 25 per cent reduction in the number of fatalities when compared to the same period in 2019. Police officers hope that the work being done will assist in reducing this further.

Road safety is highlighted as a priority in the Derbyshire Police and Crime Commissioner Police and Crime Plan and it is also a local priority for the Long Eaton SNT as a result of community concerns being raised.
