Families in the area can receive more support for the common challenges that old age brings, particularly dementia, thanks to a series of sessions hosted by home care company Home Instead Ilkeston and Hucknall.

With dementia on the rise, Home Instead is hosting a series of dementia workshops, free to attend for people living with the condition and their loved ones. Led by one of the company’s dementia specialists, the sessions teach people how to deal with the typical symptoms and overcome the challenges, while giving them the chance to get to know people in a similar situation.

The company is also hosting chair-based exercise classes, giving older people the chance to keep fit and have fun with likeminded people.

Community Relationship Lead, Steve Walters said: “I looked after my father when he was in his later years, so I know what it’s like watching your loved one’s health decline, exacerbated by loneliness which is rife amongst older people. The key thing is to know that you are not alone and that help is available.

“We are delighted to boost the support and information available. Whether you have a family member in the early stages of dementia, or are several years into your dementia journey, our sessions are a great way to learn more and make it as smooth and stress-free as possible moving forwards.”

The Dementia workshops take place at various community spaces around Ilkeston and Hucknall. The sessions take place every month. For details on upcoming events, please contact 0115 671 9970.

The chair-based exercise classes take place at The Flamstead Centre, 25A Albert Street, Ilkeston, DE7 5GU every Tuesday at 1pm until 2pm.
