Canal Vue Care Home on Awsworth Road in Ilkeston is to stage a World War 2 event including a flypast on 6th May to celebrate the UK's oldest surviving veteran who lives there..

Originally, there was a fly past arranged from one of the aircraft from the Lincolnshire (RAF Coningsby) based Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, but plans have since become more developed.

There will be free entry to the event, with parking at the nearby Ilkeston Town FC New Manor Ground car park.

The flypast from a Spitfire is scheduled, weather permitting for around 1:40pm-1:50pm whilst other attractions include a live war-time sing song by Lily Taylor-Ward, aka Lily Lovejoy.  There will an appearance from a Winston Churchill lookalike, a bouncy castle, World War 2 vehicles on display, other special guest exhibits and vehicles, food and drink will be available to purchase at a small cost (with money going to the home activity fund) along with cakes too!

More is expected as the day draws closer.

Canal Vue Care Home is the home to centenarian, 109 year old Donald Rose who has made local and regional headlines after ticking off a number of so called bucket list items including riding in a fire engine, getting astride a motorbike and flying a plane in a flight simulator.
