Maggie Throup, Member of Parliament for Erewash has welcomed the Government’s plan to improve access to primary care.

Under the Primary Care Recovery Plan, the Government announced measures to help modernise primary care by tackling the ‘8am rush’, making it easier for people to contact their GP; providing more services in pharmacies; delivering more GPs and appointments whilst at the same time cutting unnecessary NHS bureaucracy.

Maggie said: “I support the Government’s Primary Care Plan which I am sure will help people across Erewash access a GP appointment when they need one.

“The plan will free up 10 million GP appointments and end the ‘8am rush’ for patients, making sure that people receive quicker and more convenient care. This will help deliver the Prime Minister’s promise to cut NHS waiting lists, as part of our five priorities.

“It is also great news that the Government will invest £645 million so more primary care services can be provided at high street pharmacies.

“The Pharmacy First minor illness service means for the first time, pharmacists can, by the end of the year, supply prescription-only medicines for seven common illnesses such as a sore throat, earache, or a urinary tract infection. This will take pressure off GP services across the country.

Ms Throup's statement claimed that whilst Labour were "busy playing politics with the nation’s health", the Conservative Government is committed to supporting the NHS and making sure that people can access medical appointments when they need them the most.
