Local Police officers in Erewash are cutting back on the paperwork through the use of new technology in the palms of their hands and members of the public have a chance to see it for themselves.

A new 'mobile data terminal' or 'MDT' for short, has replaced a lot of the older paperwork like 'pocket note books' and forms or ticket books, which has allowed more work to be carried out whilst officers are on patrol.

However, officers from the Ilkeston and Long Eaton Safer Neighbourhood Teams have taken to social media to dispel any rumours that they might be sitting in a vehicle or standing around looking at a mobile phone, as the new MDTs look similar and are of the same size.

The mobile data terminals mean that officers get to spend a lot more time out on our beat areas and less time in the office.  A statement said: "If you see us ‘on our phones’ please don’t think we’re being ignorant, come and have a chat and if it’s appropriate we can show you some of the brilliant things we can do with it."
